The Howard Kilmer Post 510 of the American Legion and Auxiliary met on Tuesday, Sept. 12 for their regularly scheduled monthly meetings at the Post Home in Mercury. Sadie Kilmer and Fay Knutson, hostesses for the evening, served a delicious meal to 17 members. Following the social hour, the Legion and Auxiliary met in joint session under the direction of Commander Tony Long and President Fay Knutson for planning the next year’s events. The first fundraiser of the year will be the annual October fish fry scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Post Home in Mercury. A delicious meal of all you can eat fried catfish, hushpuppies, beans, potato salad, cole slaw, coffee and tea may be enjoyed for a donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Desserts will be available for 75 cents each. The Legion is sponsoring its annual Wal-Mart shopping spree raffle which includes the awarding of three gift certificates in the amounts of $300, $150 and $50. Tickets may be obtained for a donation of $1 each or six for $5. Drawing of the three winning tickets will be Dec. 9. This program benefits the many youth and veteran programs of the Legion. Under the direction of President Knutson and Wynell Chesney, serving as chaplain for the evening, the Auxiliary’s charter was draped in memory of deceased member, Marguerite Adams, a Gold Star Member. A love offering in memory of Mrs. Adams was collected for cancer research. The next scheduled business meetings will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. with the social hour beginning at 7 p.m.
