Sun City Georgetown offers many entities including golf

The newest jewel in the Texas Hill Country is Del Webb’s Sun City, a 5,625-acre development designed for adults 55 or better, located only two hours from Brady. Complete with inviting year-round climate, rugged hills and cool waters, the “city within a city” is on the outskirts of Georgetown, a town of about 20,000 that features both historical charm and a vibrant economy. Grand opening was held in April 1996. The city has a current population of 3,600 with a projected number of 17,100. The average resident age is 62. Homes, ranging in cost from $127,00 to over $700,000, are taken from 14 different floor plans from 1,100 to 3,150 square feet. At present there are 1,989 homes with a projected amount of 10,500. Located on the acreage are two championship 18-hole golf courses. The original, Legacy Hills, was opened in November 1996 while the White Wing course began play in December 1999. Both of the golf layouts were designed and built by Casper/Nash & Associates of Phoenix, Ariz. Senior PGA golf professional Billy Casper and architect Greg Nash have some 50 years combined experience in the golf design and construction business. Both courses are open to the public. The fact sheet on Legacy Hills states that the par 72 course plays from the tournament tees at 7,088 yards, 6,663 for championship tees, regular tees are 5,938 and 5,436 for forward tees. The course also features a 10-acre practice range, 328 Tifgreen hybrid Bermuda on greens, tees and approaches, and 419 Tifway hybrid Bermuda on fairways and roughs. There are a variety of greens, typically large. The average green size is 7,730 square feet. A 10,500 square-foot clubhouse with restaurant, grill and lounge, pro shop and starter area are on the golf course. The newly-opened White Wing club, also a par 72, measures 6,870 yards from the tournament tees, 6,380 from the championship tees, 5,815 from the regular tees and 5,410 from the forward tees. Also complete with a practice range, chipping area and putting green, the course has 118 acres of turf acre. The clubhouse (not completed) will include a restaurant/lounge and pro shop. A recreation center in Sun City Texas features a 42,000 square foot Village Center that includes a 16,700 square foot fitness center with a six-lane lap pool and state-of-the-art exercise equipment, arts and crafts rooms including ceramics and sewing, compuer lab, Wall Street room, billiards room, outdoor resort pool, eight tennis courts, open-air barbecue pavilion and hike and bike trails. Additionally, Lake Georgetown is less than two miles from Sun City and features camping, RV areas and boat launches.
