James Edward (Jim) Greathouse, Jr., 78. of Brady died Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Baptist Memorials Center in San Angelo. Funeral services will be held Friday (today) at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. Burial will follow in Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of Leatherwood Colonial Funeral Home of Brady. Born July 28, 1913, in Hurley, to James Edward Greathouse, Sr. and Elsie Laswell Greathouse, he married Bertha Croila Walls on Dec. 18, 1934, in Sweetwater. He was a special officer with the Abilene Police Department. He had lived in the area since 1981 and was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Brady. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Greathouse, of Brady; three sons, Larry James Greathouse of San Angelo, Edward Kent Greathouse of San Jose, Calif., and Donald Walls Greathouse of Brady; a brother, Ben Greathouse of San Angelo; two sisters, Brownie Bowers of San Angelo and Joyce Campbell of Amherst; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
