STRAIGHT SHOTS

Matches in the City Championship Golf Tournament continue. Play is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. At that time, winners will be announced. Only 34 golfers braved the heat to compete in the Thursday, Aug. 17 Hully Gully. Two teams scored 28 to take first and second places. The score card playoff gave the win to Benton Franklin, David Graves, Herbert Huffman and Jamye Graves. Leroy Keese, Charlie Bush, Dale Harris and Denise Nichols took second. Other scores were 29 and 30 and two scoring 31 and two scoring 32. The “Cowboy Sponsor” one-day tournament will be held Saturday morning. This is a mix of rodeo cowboys (some of whom have never played golf) and local sponsors. It gets wild. Last year they had to tee off on the fifth hole from a saddle mounted on the tee box. Everyone is encouraged to come out and watch. It’s a pretty good show. The fall golf season is just around the corner. The Tres Amigos Tournament will be held Sept. 16-17. Already there are 30 teams who have paid their entry fees. Seven or more have called in but not yet paid. The tournament is full with 44 teams. If you plan to play, times a wasting. Get your team together and the fees paid right away. The next Hully Gully will be Thursday, Aug. 24. Call the pro shop to enter.
