It is still hot and dry. The golf course is really stressed from the lack of water. The fairways are brown as winter in most places. On the brighter side, the greens and tee boxes are still in good shape despite the damage done to them by the recent hail storm. Thirty-three golfers participated in the Thursday afternoon Hully Gully on Aug. 3. Three teams scored 31 strokes, one scored 30 and three scored 28. Jimmy Hukill, Tony Mata, David Brown and Dannye Calley shot 27 to take first place. Hukill pitched in on number two and four to score eagles. They had a third eagle on number one and scored three birdies and three pars. Jack Roberts, Roy Sanchez, Vince Jackson and Herbert Huffman won the score card playoff to take second place. Other teams to score 28 were Donald Kiesling, Mario Mata, Ty Thompson and Mae Journeay; Abel Ledezma, Mike Rogers, Red McFarland, Doug Roberts and Chris Reyes. Golfers who are playing in the Club Championship Tournament are beginning to finish up with their first rounds. Results will be forthcoming. The next Thursday Hully Gully will be on Aug. 10. The second Sunday Hully Gully will be held on Aug. 13. Contact the pro shop at 597-6010 to enter.
