R.C. Starks, 77, died recently in a Houston hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Mason Funeral Home. Burial followed in Gooch Cemetery. Born in Mason on Dec. 27, 1922, to Georgia Pearl Banner Starks and Otto Starks, he married Pauline Bourse on Sept. 29, 1946. He served in World War II in the European Theater. He was a cattle buyer and rancher. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Mason where he served as an elder for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Starks of Voca; a son, Bob Starks of Buffalo; three daughters, Cherrie Owens and husband, Harold, of Brady, Carol Mayberry and husband, Marvin, of Duncanville, and Paulette Cagle of Lake Kemp; a nephew, Lee Bourland of Dallas; grandchildren, Lee Henderson of Katy, David and Becky Mayberry of Carolton, Sheena and John Jack Alford of Katy, Laura Mayberry of Cedarhill, Curtis and Robin Owens of Brady and Drenda Owens of Leander; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Andrea Alford of Katy and Michelle, Lance and Justin Owens of Brady. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
