The Rev. Carolyn A. (Cary) Reed is on the job as pastor of the Melvin United Methodist Church as well as associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Brady. The native of Portland, a suburb of Corpus Christi, she has been in the ministry for six years after completing Local Pastor School in 1993 from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. Prior to coming to Brady, she was pastor of the Epworth United Methodist Church in San Antonio. She is the mother of four children, Dallas, 18, a freshman at Texas A&M University; Texana, 16, a junior at Brady High School; Austin, 10, a fifth grader at Brady Elementary; and Odessa, 3, who will be in pre-kindergarten at North Ward Elementary. “I, as well as my childen, are excited about being in McCulloch County, and I’m looking forward to serving the Melvin church as well,” she said Wednesday. “The town is so friendly.” Rev. Reed will also be the associate of the Rev. Sheldon Johnson, who is in his third year at the First United Methodist Church in Brady. “In addition to my LPS study, I have completed four course of study at Perkins School of Theology at SMU and have taken some classes at the Austin Presbyterian seminary. A graduate of Gregory-Portland High School in 1973, she attended Palo Alto College in San Antonio and UTSA and is seeking her bachelor degree in sociology and English from Angelo State University. “I am familiar with some of the Brady people through the Walk to Emmaus and am ready to get to work serving others,” she said.
