Young athletes qualify for regional meet

Three Brady youngsters qualified for the regional championship track meet following their performance at the Austin Area Amateur Athletic Union meet held last Friday in Llano. Callie Petty, Daniel McAnally and Jacob McAnally all qualified in individual events and will compete today in San Antonio for the chance to advance to the Region 9 championship. Twelve-year-old Daniel competed in the midget division and qualified in the shot put and the discus with throws of 34-6 and 68-11 respectively. Seven-year-old Petty competed in the long jump and 400-meter dash. She placed ninth and second, respectively and qualified for advancement in the 400. Jacob, an eight-year-old competing in the primary division, qualified in the shot put with a throw of 14-8. The trio will be competing today in San Antonio. The top eight finishers will run again on Saturday where the top four will advance to the region championships. Athletes who qualify for the region championship will have a chance to move on to the national championships that are scheduled to be held in Florida on July 28.
