Ernest Leon (Pete) Taff, 88, of San Saba died Monday, June 12 in Brownwood. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jack Riley officiating. Burial followed in San Saba City Cemetery. Born Dec. 6, 1911, in San Saba to Cass and Mattie Moore Taff, he married Elizabeth Faye (Ditty) Johnson in San Saba on Oct. 24, 1931. They had two sons, Kenneth Wayne and Leslie Dean, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifetime resident of San Saba where he worked for Texas Architectural Aggregate, Inc. for 20 years and where he spent many years farming. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Janice Taff of San Saba; four grandchildren, Tana Knowles and husband, Chris, of San Angelo, Tisha Shuffield and husband, Jim, of Brady, Greg Taff of San Saba and Jana Lackey and husband, Darrell, of San Saba; six great-grandchildren, Jake and Cassidy Knowles, Garrett and Riley Shuffield, and Heath and Seth Lackey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his two sons, Kenneth Wayne Taff and Leslie Dean Taff; a brother, T.J. Taff; and a sister, Effie Grumbles. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice.
