Ouida Nell White Mayes, 90, of Houston and formerly of Rochelle, died Monday, June 5 at Methodist Hospital in Houston. A memorial services was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8 at the Holly Hall Retirement Center in Houston. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (today) in Rochelle Cemetery, Richard Evans, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Brady. Born Jan. 16, 1910, in Rochelle, she was a top salesperson for many years at Foley’s Department Store. She had many friends at the Holly Hall Retirement Center in Houston and was a Christian witness to all and was very active in her church. Her husband, Frank Mayes, died in 1973. Survivors include two grandsons, Doug F. Mayes and his wife, Gina, of Austin, and Steve Mayes and his wife, Kathleen, of Houston; and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Cole, Sarah and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mayes; her parents, Odie B. and Mary Charlotte (Lottie Mae) Powell White; and two sisters, Zeda Lee and Kate. The family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity or a local church.
