This was our grandmother. She was an amazing woman of courage and strength.

A tall, confident, Dutch woman with a twinkle in her eyes. She was so very proud of her only child, our father, Joe F Mayes.

And given any opportunity, she would proudly share about her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was an amazing cook. Whether it was a big Thanksgiving feast, or some fancy desserts, this lady knew how to make them perfectly.

Well into her years, and having long been widowed, she proudly mowed her own lawn. That was no small feat as it was a full acre in size. In the hot Texas sun, that would have laid out most of us. But it was just a warm up for this lady.

Ouida Nell White Mayes left for us an amazing legacy of faith and strength. We have a lot to live up to.

With great respect to our “granny,”
    Steve and Doug Mayes
