Local Brady youth, Jess Anderson, recently competed in the Missouri State Trap Shoot held in Linn Creek, Mo. The five-day event was held at the home of the second largest shooting competition in the United States. During the shooting contest, Anderson captured the Sub-Junior Doubles event and finished in the top three in all the other eight events held. This awarded him the High Over-All Trophy for Out-of-State Sub Junior category. (The Sub-Junior category is for ages 15 and under). Last week, Anderson competed in the Texas Trapshooters Association Zone V competition held at the historical downtown San Antonio Gun Club. He placed first in the Class C Singles 16-yard line event with a score of 99 out of 100. On Saturday, he won the Sub-Junior Singles Championship, which was a 200 bird event. To complete a very successful shoot, on Sunday morning, Jess won the Doubles Championship Sub-Junior Category, and went on to win the Handicap Championship 100 bird event with a score of 98, shooting from the 23.5-yard line. He then had to compete in a shoot-off with Texas Trapshooters Association President, Bob Roberts, of San Antonio, for the Zone V Handicap Championship Trophy. In the first round shoot-off, Jess won with a 25 to 22 victory. Competing at the Texas Zone 2 shoot held June 2-4, at the Permian Basin Shooting Club in Midland, Anderson won the Preliminary Singles event for Class B and also Sub-Junior category with a score of 99 out of 100 targets and the Preliminary Handicap event with a score of 97 from the 24 1/2 yard line. On Saturday, he won the Sub-Junior trophy for the 200 singles event. Finishing out the weekend competition, he also won the Sub-Junior title in the Doubles Championship and was runner-up in Open Class C. Anderson will be competing at the Colorado State Shoot in June as well as the Texas State Trap Shoot to be held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio beginning July 4.
