Frances Barton joins AmeriCorps*VISTA, commits to service

Frances Barton has completed a four-day AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) pre-service orientation last month in Austin. The orientation is in preparation for a year of service as a AmeriCorps* VISTA member for the Corporation for National Service. Ms. Barton will be serving as a VISTA volunteer for the non-profit agency, Central Texas Opportunities, Inc. which will be sponsoring her during this year of service. The purpose of the AmeriCorps* VISTA program is to strengthen and support efforts that eliminate and alleviate poverty in the U.S. Ms. Barton graduated from Brady High School in 1965. “I joined VISTA because I wanted to do something to help the community in which I reside. This volunteer committment helps the community help itself,” she said.
