Accident victim recovering well

P.C. McFarlin, 65, of Monahans, one of the victims seriously injured in Saturday’s fatal boating accident on O.H. Ivie Reservoir, is reportedly recovering steadily in Abilene’s Hendricks Medical Center. McFarlin, his son-in-law Alan Harris and his three sons, Andrew, 12, Brian, 11, and Aaron, 11, were fishing on Lake Ivie when a sudden storm capsized their pontoon boat. Harris was killed in the accident and McFarlin received several severe injuries. The three boys also received bumps and bruises but are reportedly also recovering well. “He (McFarlin) was sitting up in the hospital yesterday and seems to be healing quickly,” his wife, Murray McFarlin told the Standard-Herald Thursday morning. “He has several cracked vertebrae, a broken pelvis, several cuts and a broken shoulder, but he is making progress. He will probably have many weeks of recovery but a lot depends on how quickly he heals.” Exact details of the accident are still unknown. Family member and rescue personnel reports are expected to be delivered in a meeting with Texas Parks and Wildlife officials Thursday morning. The meeting was in progress at press time. “We really have no way of knowing exactly what happened,” said Mrs. McFarlin.
