Betty Loraine Williams, 78, lifelong resident of Brady, died at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at her home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27 in the First Christian Church of Brady. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (today) in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Born April 29, 1922, in Brady, she was the daughter of James Henry and Carrie Sessions Wigginton. She married Jean F. Williams on Nov. 14, 1943. Mrs. Williams taught private kindergarten for 27 years and also taught at South Ward Elementary. A faithful member of the Ladies’ Hospital Auxiliary, she recent was presented an award for her 25 years and 8,000 hours of service to the organization A longtime member of the First Christian Church, she knitted and donated many articles to be auctioned off for non-profit community projects. Survivors include her husband, Jean of Brady; two sons, James Allen Williams and his wife, Carla, and Charles Courtney Williams and his wife, Tanya, all of Brady; a daughter, Betzy Williams Day and her husband, Mark, of Brady; a sister, Carolyn Hallum of El Paso; and four grandchildren, Kent Day of Brady, Carrye Day of Lubbock, Tyler Williams and Reed Williams, both of Brady. Pallbearers will be Curtis Owens, Jim Whitten, Murray Jordan, Gerald Huffman, Billy Jones and Wayne Rawlings. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hospital Auxiliary. The family has requested memorial donations be made to charity of choice.
