Davis completes council, police chief position re-opened for more applicants The Brady City Council met Wednesday and became a full council once again as Missi Davis was sworn in for Place 5 following Saturday's runoff election. Davis defeated former councilman Billy Patterson and now holds the seat formerly occupied by the late Jesse Tate. After the council was complete, they took agenda items in stride but spent the most time discussing the item posted as an action item to appoint Lt. Lance Sides as the permanent police chief. The item was placed on the agenda by Councilwomen Linda Lott and Mary Bradshaw. "I asked to have this on the agenda to see how the council felt about it," said Lott during the meeting. A considerable amount of discussion centered around the rest of the council's concern for seeing the selection process continue as already decided. The item was finalized when Lott made the motion to proceed with the hiring and interview process as previously discussed having said that she was not aware how far into the formal process things were. City Manager James Minor then made the statement that the position was going to be re-opened with a different job description and that all 50 applicants that had already applied would still be considered. After that, he stated that he was going to have a panel including some "technical advisors" to ensure the qualifications in the applications were accurately considered. That panel would help cull the list to a smaller list for actual interviews. See a complete recap of the meeting in next week's edition.
